Everything You Need to Know
Costs, duration, difficulty, booking: direct answers to the questions we receive most often from travelers.
How much does the excursion to the Stromboli crater cost?
The guided excursion to the Stromboli crater costs 30 euros per person for adults and 15 euros for children aged 10 to 12. The price includes the AGAI-certified volcanology guide, the safety helmet, and the radio transmitter. There are no hidden costs at the meeting point.
How long does the trekking to the Stromboli crater last?
The trekking lasts approximately 5 hours in total: 3 hours of ascent up to 400 meters in altitude, a 45-minute stop to observe the Strombolian explosions, and about 1 hour and 30 minutes of descent. Departure is in the late afternoon to reach the observation point at sunset.
Do you need to be fit to climb Stromboli?
A medium level of fitness is required: the elevation gain is 400 meters on a steep trail, but with no technical or mountaineering sections. Anyone who regularly walks 1-2 hours without trouble can complete the climb. The guides adjust the pace to the group and make regular stops.
Can you climb Stromboli with children?
Yes, children can take part in the crater excursion starting from 10 years of age, as required by AGAI alpine guide regulations. For younger children, we suggest the island boat tour or the nighttime view of the Sciara del Fuoco from the sea.
What is included in the excursion price?
The price includes the AGAI-certified volcanology guide in Italian, English, or French, the safety helmet, and the radio transmitter rental. Not included: trekking shoes (optional rental at our office), headlamp, backpack, water, change of shirt, and sunscreen.
When can you do the trekking on Stromboli?
The crater trekking is available from Easter until early November, weather permitting. High season runs from June to September; in August, a minimum stay of 3 nights is required. The All Inclusive package (excursion plus accommodation) is available from May to September.
