How much does the Stromboli crater trekking cost?
The crater trekking costs €30 per person. The price includes the authorised volcanological guide and the safety helmet. Equipment (trekking shoes, backpack, headlamp) can be rented on site at the Vulcano a Piedi office. There are no hidden costs at the meeting point.
How long does the excursion last?
The excursion lasts a total of 5 hours and covers a distance of about 6 km, with moderate difficulty. It starts from the Vulcano a Piedi office near the Scari pier; you climb along panoramic trails observing the flora and fauna, reach the viewpoint to observe the volcanic activity and return to the Scari pier.
Who cannot do the crater trekking?
The tour is not suitable for: pregnant women, people with heart conditions, those suffering from hypertension, diabetes or asthma, those with knee or back problems, those who suffer from altitude sickness, and other serious medical conditions. Participants must be in excellent physical condition. If in doubt, consult your doctor before booking.
Do I need to be fit to climb?
Yes, participants must be in excellent physical condition. The difficulty is moderate: 6 km along panoramic trails but with significant elevation gain. The guides adjust the pace to the group and take regular breaks, but a good baseline level of fitness is required to walk on volcanic terrain for 5 hours.
What should I bring?
Trekking shoes, a backpack of at least 20 litres, a headlamp, a spare T-shirt, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a packed lunch and 1.5 litres of water per person. All the equipment (shoes, backpack, headlamp) can be rented on site at the Vulcano a Piedi office.
