Due to the intense volcanic activity, the excursions to the top craters at the moment are forbidden.

Stromboli Top Craters Hike

Book the Trekking with departure 3 hours before sunset

Stromboli escursione
Medium difficulty
5 hours length

From March to October

Volcanological Guide and reservation required. Price of the excursion € 28 + € 5 of municipal ticket to be paid on site.

The departure time of the hike depends on the season, usually about 3 hours before sunset. It starts from our office located in Via Pizzillo 2 minutes walking from the dock (more information about the place of departure in the bottom of the contacts page) and it takes about three hours to get to the top, with three or four intermediate stops.

The glideslope path passes by the Southeast side, between the top of the crater and the vegetation and then enters amoung the typical red strombolian reeds. After a sandy ridge of approximately 300 m of altitude, you will arrive to the country in two hours time.

The climb to the craters expecially for those that are not used to walk in the mountains is not of short duration. There is a vertical drop of 900 meters, often with steep steps and sections covered with sand and volcanic ashes, where it is quite hard to proceed. For some people it is a considerable effort to deal with in the best physical condition and with suitable hiking equipment.

  • Essential Trekking shoes with socks
  • Flashlight (one per person with spare batteries)
  • an extra cotton shirt
  • pullover and jacket (raincoats).

Useful informations
